Focus on Milnrow and Newhey: New starters
Date published: 03 December 2010
As part of Rochdale Online’s Focus on Milnrow and Newhey month we have been visiting schools to meet the new reception class children.
The children have all settled in very well and are preparing for their Christmas plays.
In our photo gallery we have reception class photographs from:
• Moorhouse House County Primary School
• St Thomas C of E Primary School
• Milnrow Parish Primary School
• Crossgates Primary School
There are 28 children in the reception class at Moorhouse House County Primary School. They have been learning how to read and write and have been making the most of their outdoor space.
Their teacher, Mrs Duckworth said: “Their reading and writing is astounding and we are thrilled with the support we have had from parents. The children are making really good progress.”
The children at St Thomas CE Newhey are spending this half term learning about celebrations, including bonfire night and devali.
Reception Class teacher Mrs Pye from Milnrow Parish Primary School said: “They have settled in really well. We have just had parents evening and the parents are delighted with their progress.
“This year we have 16 boys and just 3 girls but they are all mixing really well. They are all enjoying school and making new friends.”
Children at Crossgates Primary School on Kiln Lane are all enjoying school. Their topic is ‘getting to know ourselves’ so they have been learning about where they live, their families and their bodies. They have also been learning about life in the past and have had a ‘grandparents’ day.’
This year’s Christmas play at the school is ‘Donkey for sale’ which they are preparing for. The youngsters are also looking forward to seeing the Beauty and the Beast pantomime at the Middleton Arena.
