Shrews on the verge of Holt signing
Date published: 20 June 2008
Rochdale may have been rumoured to be in the market for Grant Holt but the former Dale striker is unlikely to return to Spotland this summer.
Rochdale Online believes that Holt, who scored 42 goals in 83 appearances for Dale before moving to Notts Forest in January 2006, will sign a deal with Shrewsbury Town after Forest accepted a bid from the League Two club.
No-one was available for comment from Shrewsbury today (Friday 20 June) but it is thought that they are tying up the formalities of Holt's contract today.
Rochdale are also thought to have had a bid for Holt accepted but it looks as though Shrewsbury have stolen in ahead of Dale to clinch a major coup for the striker that cost Forest £300,000.
27-year-old Holt scored just three goals for Forest in League One last season and he faired little better during a loan spell at Blackpool at the back end of the season.
Holt is believed to be one of a number of targets on Shrewsbury manager, and indeed former Rochdale boss, Paul Simpson's wish-list.
