Date published: 14 December 2014
Middleton Arena hosted the Hung Kuen Shaolin Kung Fu tournament today (Sunday 14 December).
Organised by Master Ang, from Hung Kuen Shaolin Kung Fu in Middleton, the tournament saw men, women and children take part in a number of Kung Fu forms.
The tournament started with children and adult’s empty hand forms, animal forms and weapon forms.
Weapon forms included halberd, spear, staff, fan and broadsword.
The tournament then progressed to children’s sparring and culminated in men and women’s and team sparring.
Jourdana Duoba, from Hung Kuen Shaolin Kung Fu Middleton, said: “It has been challenging but fun at the same time. I started training about six months ago and have known Master Ang since I was younger. There has been a really good turn out as well.”
Jadan Ogoo, also from the Middleton Club, said: “I’m really pleased that I won. It’s amazing. I started training about nine months ago because I wanted to be able to defend myself if I needed to.”
As well as participants from Middleton, participants from London, Loughborough and Manchester also took part in the tournament.
