CLL season ends with Littleborough beating champions Norden
Date published: 22 September 2014
Daniel Salpietro has re-signed as Norden professional for the 2015 season. He put pen to paper on Sunday watched by the club's cricket committee chairman Dexter Fitton and club president Brian Butterworth.
The Lake Garage Central Lancashire League season finally ended on Sunday when champions Norden entertained Littleborough in a match which had been delayed a week due to Norden’s appearance in the LCB Knockout final.
Only four of the team which played in that final were involved in the finale, many of the regulars being unavailable due to booked holidays or work commitments, but Norden did have leading run scorer Simon Harman who batted throughout his team’s innings to score an unbeaten 68.
Unfortunately for him he has not ended the season as the CLL’s leading amateur run scorer. That honour goes to Boro’s Chris Schofield who hit a ton last week and followed up with 108 in this match.
Schofield and Harman were the outstanding players on the day, but there were also good shows from Boro’s Ryan Miskella, who scored an unbeaten 30 and took two for 23, and Jamie Roach who scored 32 in a good partnership with Schofield.
And perhaps we had a glimpse into the future with both teams including young players of promise.
Boro won the toss and elected to bat first, but they lost deputy professional Zimmy Khan on 27 when Joe Humphreys covered ground to take a catch on the run.
Reeza went for 10, caught by Daniel Salpietro, but Schofield, Roach and Miskella then piled on the runs.
Hashum Malik bowled Roach with 164 on the board.
By the time Schofield was run out, following a throw to the keeper from Salpietro, Boro had scored 220, and another 20 were added for the loss of Nash before the innings was declared with one delivery of the 50 overs left unbowled.
Norden’s reply never really got going, with a youthful front order going cheaply and Harman trying to hold the innings together.
Perhaps the key wicket for Boro came when Miskella bowled Salpietro.
That made it 79 for five and it was never going to be on for Norden.
Harman hit three sixes in his 68, and Ross Collin added a bright 14, but the Stags were all out for 159.
