Cruttenden rallies to the cause!

Date published: 27 May 2008

Joe Cruttenden, 18 from Newhey, competed in his first international rally at the weekend. Joe, gained his international licence two weeks ago and received a call from Irish rally driver Martin Laverty to co-drive for him on the Jim Clark International rally, in Scotland.

Joe said: "I have been going up to Marshal on this event for five years now and have always wanted to compete on it, as it is the only rally run on closed public roads in mainland Britain. It is a very fast rally with lots of high speed jumps and tight corners.

"Despite the Citroen C2, having overheating problems, we managed to finish 37th out of the 61 international entries.

The two day event covered 18 stages around the border region of Scotland; a very demanding rally for both the car and the crew, which caught out many of the top drivers on the first few stages.

Joe’s next rally is the Dukeries in June, and he is planning to do his next international on the Isle of Man.

Joe added: "Having gained my international rallying status my immediate goal is to compete in Britain, Ireland and Europe. Therefore, I am looking for sponsorship from local firms who would benefit from the advantage of television and media coverage these rally’s receive."
