Rochdale footballers honoured at town hall celebration

Date published: 21 May 2008

The Rochdale AFC football squad will attend a civic reception at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening (28 May) following the League Two play-off final against Stockport County at Wembley.

The reception, staged by Rochdale Council is being held to commemorate their centenary year, and their first match at Wembley.

Council Leader Alan Taylor said it has been a remarkable season: "It's been a superb year for Rochdale Football Club and it's only right that the council recognises their achievement.

"It means a lot to the supporters to get to Wembley for the first time in the club's history and I think that should be marked with a special celebration like this.

"The manager, players and everyone connected with the club have worked really hard this season so we're delighted to help them celebrate their thoroughly deserved success."

Players, officials and guests from Rochdale Football Club will attend the reception at the Great Hall at 6.00 pm. At approximately 6.15pm the team is due to appear on the balcony alongside the Mayor to toast their success.
