Milnrow too solid for Unsworth

Date published: 07 May 2014

The first toss that Milnrow's captain Nathan Sinkinson had won saw him decide for his squad to take the ball first after taking a look at the wicket - Milnrow had won three out of in three when bowling first in each game.

Milnrow's bowling attack started very strong with Unsworth unable to score many in the first 10 overs.

With the score on 31 and Unsworth's openers Chris Long (12) and Australian overseas Jeff Keyt (12) it was fellow Australian Jakson Knight who got the first wicket of the day by getting Keyt trapped lbw.

Fazil was next to the crease for a very short visit as he tried to smash Rudi Second when still on nil to only manage to edge it straight to wicket keeper Steve Dryden.

With the Unswroth score at 45 for 2 in 17 overs it called for Chris Williams, Unsworth's English professional, to try and create a respectable score, but with Second on fire it was only 11 more runs until he took opener Chris Long on 26, caught by Max Power at first slip.

John Wiggins quickly followed, caught by Alexander Bartley, again from Second's bowling.

A quick partnership of 31 was then built by Chris Williams and Todd Casey before Casey was given lbw by Knight for 20.

Aman Arora and ex Milnrow player Mohammad Jehangir were both sent back to the dressing room in quick succession by Rudi Second, bringing Second his first five wicket haul of the season.

Knight was then replaced by Wilkinson after a fantastic 14 over spell.

Wilkinson, only being hit for 21 in his first six overs, took advantage as he brought down Jack O'Brien on two with Max Power taking a splendid catch to secure the wicket.

Williams reached his half century within 89 balls just before young Wilkinson finished Unsworth off, leaving him with three wickets.

Milnrow's Wilman and Bartley batted safely and professionally, with Unsworth changing their bowlers frequently due to being unable to dismiss the openers.

Wilman could be considered unfortunate when he clipped one straight up to a fielder off Fazil's bowling when on 18.

Second joined Bartley to provide another solid performance.

Bartley, taking advantage of the gaps to get five boundaries, fell at 35 when he missed the ball trying to play straight to Williams.

With Milnrow on 76 for 2 with 23 overs gone they brought Jakson Knight to bat.

Knight and Second made a 25 run partnership before Knight was sent packing by the umpire on 23 to Jehangir lbw.

Without ever looking troubled, Second reached 50 with Power at the crease with him.

Second tried to take advantage of the Unsworth bowlers only to be dropped twice and came his first dismissal of the season when his luck ran out and was given lbw to John Wiggins on 69.

Dryden joined Power and they successfully reached and passed the Unsworth target for another five point win.
