Power and Second lead Milnrow to victory over Ashton

Date published: 01 May 2014

Milnrow's first home game of the season saw them win against Ashton.

After a fantastic win at Radcliffe last week the Milnrow boys were in high spirits and raring to go.

Ashton won the toss and put themselves into bat.

The game started well for Milnrow with their new Australian overseas player, Jakson Knight taking a wicket in his first over with a spectacular catch from Alex Bartley taking Bhati for a duck.

In his next over Knight then took Ashton's other opener, Taylor, for two with a brilliant catch himself.

With the score only on 24, Aaron Brown took the next wicket with the helping hand of Brian Defty to dismiss Yousaf for just 9.

Knight and Brown continued to take wickets to bring Ashton to 53 for 6.

Milnrow's South African professional, Rudi Second, took the ball and after being hit for a big six by Ashton professional Syed Shah took his wicket, with Shah on 38, with the help of Rob Wilman.

Within quite quick succession Brown and Knight soon finished Ashton off leaving them with a low score of 115.

Milnrow opened after tea with Rob Wilman and Alex Bartley.

Bartley fell to Moeen Syed for a duck.

Wilman was joined at the crease by Rudi Second.

With the score only at 13 Rob Wilman was taken with a catch whilst on 10.

Jakson Knight was then set to bat but with a golden duck his innings was over quicker than expected.

Max Power joined Rudi Second at the crease to steadied Milnrow with a very secure and steady batting performance.

Rudi Second reached a very comfortable 50 then followed it with a huge six.

Max Power reached an unbeaten 37 and Rudi Second an unbeaten 63 as they quickly reahced the Ashton total to give Milnrow victory.
