Northern Flags Lacrosse Finals

Day two of the Northern Flags Lacrosse finals saw both Rochdale teams defeated by Cheadle.

The second day of the finals, held on Sunday 27 April, saw the Rochdale Under 14s team open the event by competing in the Under 14s Plate Final.

Rochdale showed real heart throughout their game fighting at every opportunity for the win. Despite their fight, Cheadle dominated the game and beat Rochdale 9-2.

Rochdale B then competed for the Nigel Wayne Cup against Cheadle C. The teams were described as “the heavy weights” of the day by organisers. Both teams showed their experience throughout the game. Cheadle took the lead early on with Rochdale trying hard to pull the game back. The final score of the game was Cheadle 14 – 4 Rochdale with Cheadle taking home the Nigel Wayne Cup.

The Under 16s Cup, which saw Timperley face off against Brooklands, was described as a “high standard of lacrosse.” The game was close from the starting whistle, with the final score finishing at 5-4 to Timperley.

Ashton and Chealde Hulme faced off for their fixture in the afternoon of the finals. Ashton looking strong from the off set. Even though Ashton showed their dominance, Cheadle Hulme managed to steal the victory in the final 13 seconds of the game with the score finishing at 12-11 to Cheadle.

Mellor Under 12s were up against Norbury Under 12s competing for the Onongada Cup. Mellor entered the game in the midst of a 23 game
undefeated streak with Norbury heading into the game as a “force” in the lacrosse Under 12s league. The final score ended Mellor 15-5 Norbury, securing another undefeated game for Mellor.

Cheadle secured the final win of the day by beating Stockport 10-8 to be crowned winners of the Senior Flags.
