Mixed martial arts fighters Jonno Mears and Steven Henshall have walked away with amateur titles after competing at the weekend.

Jonno was crowned the Rage in the Cage UAR British Welterweight Champion and Steven was crowned Rage in the Cage UAR British Middleweight Champion.

Professional Cage Fighter, Martin Stapleton, the owner of the Full Contact Performance Centre where the two trained for their fights, said: “It was great to come away with two wins. Both lads did great on the night.”

Jonno, who has been training with Martin for two years, fought five rounds before being crowned the winner. Martin said: “He had a tough fight and had to go five rounds but he was strong in all departments and I knew he could win it.”

Steven, who has been training at the Full Contact Performance Centre for six months, secured the win in the second round with a knock out.

“Steven had a tough opponent who was very strong and knew what he was doing but Steven managed to get the better of him and win in the second round,” said Martin.

This now marks the third title in the past month for the centre. Chris Senior won the FCC Welterweight Amateur Championshiplast month.

“We are hoping to build on the success we have had recently over the next few months with a number of fighters going out to compete for us. It is a great feeling to secure these recent title wins,” added Martin.

The Full Contact Performance Centre opened in March 2012.

Martin added: “MMA fighters have to give up a lot and do a lot because they have to train in a number of disciplines. If anyone wants to sponsor any of our fighters or wants to find out more about them they all they have to do is get in touch and we can put them in contact with the right people.”
