Northern Flags Lacrosse Finals: Day One

Both teams representing Rochdale lost in the Northern Flags Lacrosse Finals today (Saturday 26 April).

The Rochdale Under 12s team were defeated by Poynton Under 12s team in the opening game of the day. The result saw Poynton win the Under 12 Plate final.

Rochdale Firsts suffered defeat against Sheffield University in the closing game of the day. The disappointment could clearly be seen on Rochdale’s faces after a hard fought game. Sheffield took home the Stockport Cup after winning 12 points to 7.

Cheadle B took a strong lead against Stockport B during their game and held the lead throughout the final. The David Beesley cup was awarded to Cheadle B for the win.

Stockport Under 14s versus Poynton Under 14s was described as the “match of the day” by organisers after the game went in to overtime. The game was close to call throughout with Poynton only taking the lead during overtime. Poynton were awarded the Centurions Cup.

Rochdale Cricket and Lacrosse Club are playing host to the event for the whole of the weekend. Rochdale were constantly complemented throughout the day for hosting the event with fans from all over the UK coming along to support their teams.

The event continues tomorrow (Sunday 27 April) with Rochdale Under 14s competing in the Plate Final at 10.00am and Rochdale B competing for the Nigel Wayne Cup at 12pm.
