Wardleworth FC - a season undefeated

Date published: 07 May 2008

Wardleworth FC has gone through the entire season undefeated in the Turnstone Developments Second Division of the Rochdale & District Sunday Football League. They captured the Championship with a game to spare with a winning streak that began back in summer 2007.

A club spokesman said there have been “thrills and spills” throughout the season and Wardleworths closest rivals, FC Bernard from Littleburough, pushed the club hard, but ran out of steam with a few games to go.

Wardleworth say they have already set their sites on planning a successful challenge to take the title in the Rochdale Online First Division next year.

Manager Azmat Khan said: “This achievement has been the highlight of my career with Wardleworth”, where he has completed 15 years service.

He added: “This is a pivotal point in Wardleworth's 18 year history. The season has seen the club take giant strides in developing its future by the introduction of a youth team. The club is definitely heading in the right direction having agreed a 5 year sponsorship deal with Whitestone Solicitors.

“The club welcomes every member of any community to help strengthen the team by joining the team in pre-season which starts early June 2008.

“I would like to thank everyone associated with the club in particular Zahid Hussain, Faraz Khan, Mohammed Maskin, all management committee members and most importantly the fans.”
