Pot and Success stalemate!
Date published: 14 April 2008
Both teams had key players missing but still had good players on show in the first of three encounters within a week in three different compitions.
The pitch was very heavy but both teams went into the match with positive frame of minds.
Copperpot were on the attack in the first part of the game and Success has their backs to the wall. However, Success were strong and looking for the better of the early exchanges as they tried to get their ship back on track after last week's Sunday Trophy Cup Final disappoitnment.
From a corner midway through the first half Copperpot were awarded a penalty after the ref saw a push which was put away very cooly by Saxey.
Copperpot should made it 2-0 five minutes later as the same as Saxey again stood over the ball at the penalty spot after a push, but this time blasted the ball over the bar.
This spurred Success on as they pushed forward with Hayes pulling the strings supported by Harris in the midfield.
Half time: Copperpot 1 - 0 Success to the Plough
The second half started with Success on top and within three minutes they were level; Harris smashed home a loose ball into the roof of the net.
The game was now end-to-end as both teams were looking for the winner but it was Success that had the better chances, Needham hitting the bar and Hayes hitting the post, and many other chances went begging.
Copperpot also had chances but McDermot in the Success goal coped with everything thrown at him.
All watching were now being treated to an excellent game of football as both teasmw ent all out but neither could find the goal and in the end a draw was a fair result.
