Keith Hill says 'we deserved the victory'

Rochdale made it four wins from four in September with a 3-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Spotland on Saturday and manager Keith Hill gave an honest appraisal after the match.

He said: “We started superbly then the momentum swings because on two occasions our players were a little bit negligent in possession. Once momentum swings away from us it is difficult to wrestle it back and that’s the situation we found ourselves in. We had found ourselves in a comfortable position before that being three goals to the advantage.

“Did we deserve to win the game? Of course we did.

“We weren’t bad defensively, we just gave the ball away in vulnerable areas of possession and that’s what disappointed me because I trust those players not to give the ball away or to show the opposition a lack of respect.

"We’ve done more than enough to win the game comfortably and I thought at times we were absolutely superb, but I’m always looking for improvements.

“When we're 3-0 up we should be keeping the ball a lot better, we shouldn’t be looking for glory in the result because the glory has already been achieved by the points that we’ve got on the board.

"We should have managed the game a lot more comfortably and we shouldn’t have left the door slightly ajar for the opposition.

“We gave Wycombe a heartbeat. They had no pulse then they started getting warm, they started coming back to life and then the second goal gave them a lot of encouragement.

"But we weren’t found wanting on our responsibility towards the end of the game and I thought we deserved the victory.”
