Mayfield Preview

Date published: 26 September 2013

Mayfield entertain Dewsbury Celtic in Saturday’s Hatton's Conference Division One game at the Mayfield Sports Centre.

Back in July Mayfield managed a hard fought 26 – 31 victory at Dewsbury’s ground. Things have changed since then with Mayfield not dropping a single point while today’s visitors have struggled along just managing to halt a four match losing streak with a win against relegation strugglers Waterhead last week.

Mayfield will be hoping to field a full strength team, although Kristian Duffy will be facing a fitness test on a shin injury picked up in last week's win at Saddleworth.#

Duffy will be missed if he doesn’t make it with Matt Calland saying: "Kristian's defence is second to none, his tackling is straight from the text book, but if he misses out we have players waiting in the wings to take over.

"I was pleased with the nature of the win last week, not just the way we played but the attitude the players displayed was spot on, just what we have been looking for all season. We played as a team and helped each other out all over the pitch."

Mayfield should be too strong Dewsbury and the coaches must be pleased with the way they have progressed recently. There were no weaknesses shown last week with power and pace right through the team; one pleasing aspect was the improvement shown by Nick Hargreaves in the centre as well as one or two good attacking moments Hargreaves showed great composure in defence with some great leg tackles.

The Mayfield pack were also in fine form last week, led by Todd O’Brien and loose forward Paul Brearley they completely dominated the Saddleworth pack and will be looking for a similar performance on Saturday.

Match sponsors in the Zone with Ace electrical are Gareth Parry and Associates along with Ben and Adele Butterworth and friends.

The Mayfield NWML side face a tough away as they travel to Oldham St Anne's in the promotion play off fixture.

Anne's finished top which gives them home advantage in the tie and this will be a tough game for the Mayfield boys but after some good outings this season they will travel to Oldham looking for a victory.

With a couple of players out with injury Leon ashworth and Dunc Simpson will be looking for maximum effort from their seventeen. There is a good blend of youth and experience with old warhorses Andy Batts and Anthony Greaves alongside the Percy brothers, Jake Johnson and Luke Hartley, all good players and all going to Oldham to win.
