Rochdale Hornets Supporters Tag Rugby League Team, the Rochdale Swarm, have been awarded nearly £3000 through the National Lottery's Awards For All Scheme.

After undergoing a rigorous vetting procedure the Swarm through the Hornets Supporters Association, the Nest Egg were awarded the grant to aid with coaching, kit, medical supplies, transport and training equipment.

Spokesman for the Tag Team Mark Wynn said: "The money will give us a massive boost especially as the progress we have made has been at a far faster rate than anyone anticipated and has caught us all by surprise, especially the numbers we now have at Tuesday training sessions.

Rochdale Swarm was set up to increase awareness and support of Rugby League and Rochdale Hornets.

The Swarm's next League fixture coincides with the Hornets V Hull FC cup tie on 20 April. The Swarm will face the Hull FC Supporters Tag Rugby League side, the FC Irregulars, at Firgrove, Milnrow on the morning of the match and then both teams will travel up to Spotland to take in the Challenge Cup Tie in the afternoon.

The Swarm hope to help swell the crowd by encouraging as many Hull fans to make the trip as possible.

The team hopes to replicate this in other fixtures and have already arranged matches against York supporters to coincide with their team's trip to Spotland.
