Rochdale Online Alliance Football League Report

Date published: 20 September 2013

Early season predictions that this season’s title race will be the closest for many years continue to be borne out by September’s results with FC Bury Town the new leaders of the Sartori Sharpening Services Premier Division after week three.

Goals from Zaid Awad and Kyle Pyrah proved enough to overcome previous leaders Rochdale Sacred Heart by two goals to one at Derby High; Patel the Hearts scorer.

Two potential contenders shared the spoils at Springhill as goals from McDermott and Butterworth for Balderstone were cancelled out by Fothergill’s Platt and Webster.

Meanwhile, the battle of the two remaining pointless teams was shaded by White Lion;  Lewis, Lord and Jacobs the scorers in their 3-2 home win over Star Athletic. This victory will give Mark Horner’s team the confidence to realise themselves how good a footballing side they are, whilst Saeed Ahmed must be hoping his squad do not wait, as usual, until March to start playing to their potential.

In the Matthew Montgomery & Co First Division, F&W 2nds and Hargreaves both maintained their one hundred per cent records with big home wins.

For F&W it was a second consecutive 7-1 win over F&W Rovers; White 2, Fitton, Harris-Hudson, Johnson, Craw and an own goal making up the seven, whilst Hargreaves’ Berry and Johnson with a brace apiece saw off Mighty Dragons at Redvales with the other goals coming from Davenport and Galbraith.

The new leaders are Balderstone 2nds, courtesy of the point gleaned from Rochdale Asia, whilst Sudden joined a veritable clutch of teams on nine points as a Fitz McKenzie hat trick fired them to a comprehensive home win over Wardle OB.

Of the many interesting fixtures this coming Saturday are Rochdale Sacred Heart’s trip to Oldham Boro and Whitworth Valley’s visit to the confines of Walsden Rec in the Premier Division. Divison One’s match of the day is arguably Whitworth Valley 2nds v Rochdale Asia at Rawstron Street.
