A busy summer for Dale's Football in The Community Trust

Date published: 19 September 2013

Rochdale AFC’s Football in the Community Trust has enjoyed a summer entertaining local children at their popular multi-sports courses which were held during the six week holidays.

Youngsters took part in a whole range of activities including football and basketball at six different venues across the Borough – Littleborough Sports Centre, Soccer Factory, St Mary’s Primary School, Siddal Moor Sports College, Wardle High School and Whitworth Community High School.

As well as the multi-sports sessions, the Trust also spent time with pupils at Redwood Secondary School, and enjoyed a successful venture with Rochdale Borough Housing (RBH), delivering coaching to over 100 boys and girls.

As part of the venture with RBH , the children spent time at Spotland taking part in sessions involving football, athletics, volleyball and basketball, plus tours round the Stadium. Some lucky children got the chance to meet Captain Peter Cavanagh and Joe Rafferty who took time out of their busy schedule to have a chat with them and to answer any questions.

The Football in the Community Trust also teamed up with Redwood Secondary School to provide sporting activities to Year Six students, with assistance from pupils in Year 10, to aid the transition to secondary school for the younger children.
