Rochdale 1 - 0 Torquay United

Date published: 14 September 2013

Ian Henderson's 77th minute goal for Rochdale was enough to seal victory over Torquay and make it consecutive 1 - 0 wins for Dale at Spotland.

Scott Hogan's deliveries from the right provided Dale's most potent threat during a first half of few clear chances.

Torquay went closest to scoring when Billy Bodin raced into the area and fired towards goal from 10 yards, Javan Vidal's challenge diverting the ball onto the roof of Josh Lillis' net.

There was another escape for Dale when Lee Mansell's free-kick was flicked on by Bodin and Karl Hawley's near-post effort flew just over the bar.

Torquay also went close after Billy Bodin's cross was met by Aaron Downes, but his header flew straight into Josh Lillis' arms.

Torquay goalkeeper Martin Rice pulled off a fine save to push Ollie Lancashire's header over the top.

The game was settled when Henderson dispossessed Krystian Pearce and exchanged passes with Scott Hogan before firing past Rice.
