Mayfield preview

Date published: 05 September 2013

Mayfield entertain Milford Marlins this weekend in the Hatton's National Conference Div 1 at the Mayfield Sports Centre.

Mayfield visited Milford back in march this was a game they shouild have won.

At 10 - 0 up and in complete control Mayfield then hit the self destruct button and in the end went down 28 – 20, in a loss that could cost them dearly at the end of the season.

While Mayfield were dispatching with Oulton Raiders, Milford narrowly lost out to league leaders St Judes 16 – 14, this shows they are really a quality side and will take some beating.

Coaches Sam Butterworth and Matt Calland are hoping to have a full squad to select from today. Despite the easy win last week Mayfield were missing four players, with Jack Sampson, Paul Brearley, Si Moore and Mark Biggins all missing. This will pose one or two selection problems for Butterworth and Calland but thats the job and they will select what they consider the best team to beat Milford.

Mayfield are on top form at the minute playing a wide expansive game that their opposition has struggled to deal with.

Sponsors for the game in the Zone with Ace Electrical are Adam Pirouzan and the parents of the mustangs under 9s.

While the NCL side are playing Milford the NWML side are taking on Widnes West Bank in the NWML Div 3. This is the final league fixture with the result deciding where and who they will play in the end of season play offs.

After beating Widnes St Maries in their last outing a fortnight ago Mayfield are full of confidence and looking forward to the challenge of beating West Bank and then going on to do well in the play offs.
