Mayfield preview

Date published: 29 August 2013

After last week's break for the Challenge Cup Final, Mayfield return to action with a home game at the Mayfield Sports Centre, their opposition is Leeds club, Oulton Raiders.

When the two teams met in June at Oulton's ground, Mayfield threw away several chances to win the game, eventually going down 28 – 24.

Saturday's game should be different with Mayfield in fine form having won their last eight games, in fact, Oulton were the last team to take points from the Rochdale side.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth are looking forward to redressing that defeat saying: “we are currently joint fourth in the division with Oulton one point below us.

"Milford and Hunslet both have tough away games today so it's up to us to win our game and if they both go down we will then grab the third place, which is where we should be really.

"Every game between now and the end of the season will be like a cup final for us, we want to win every one of them and it is within our capability to do so.”

Mayfield will be drawing on the depth of their squad with at least two players on holiday and Aussie prop Mitch Spackman having returned home early due to work commitments.

Main sponsors for the game in the main box are Recruitment Solutions along with Heywood based, The Rob Kershaw Appreciation Society.

The NWML side have no game.
