Mayfield preview

Date published: 15 August 2013

Mayfield return to action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to bottom club Stanley Rangers.

This will be no walk in the park as Stanley have picked up their game in recent weeks and will be looking to take points from the Rochdale side.

A draw two weeks ago at Eccles and a two point defeat to Hunslet last week show Stanley are finally getting a bit of form together.

Mayfield travel with a seven match winning run under their belts despite a week off last week.

Coaches Sam Butterworth and Matt Calland are treating this game like a top of the table clash knowing that they need to win as many games as possible to keep alive their top three ambitions.

They lose the services of Aussie sensation, Mitch Spackman, after this week as he returns home early due to work commitments. The hard working prop will be sorely missed by his side, fortunately there are players stepping back in with Aidan Gleeson looking at a return and Callum Marriott hoping to shake off a hamstring problem in time for the game.

New signing Jack Malen looked good in his debut game two weeks ago at Waterhead and will be pushing for a spot in the squad.

So despite losing Spackman, the squad is still looking strong for the run into the end of the season.

The NWML side are hoping to face Widnes West Bank in a rearranged fixture at the Mayfield Sports Centre in a game which could determine the final play off positions.

Fixtures:
NCL div1 Stanley v Mayfield; KO: 2.30
NWML div3 Mayfield v West Bank; KO: 2.30
