Cricket: Edmeades impresses again

Date published: 07 August 2013

Another century for professional Grant Edmeades was not enough to deny Clifton victory in their duel with Middleton.

Batting first, Middleton lost an early wicket in the form of Mo Shahid, who was caught by Adam Holt off the bowling of Greg Jennings for two.

This brought Edmeades to the crease and together with George Walker they shared a second wicket partnership of 209, taking Middleton within reach of a competitive total, before the professional was caught by Will Davidson off Matt Wright for a sensational knock of 112.

Knowing that they needed to kick on, the incoming batsmen threw the bat at the ball, but it only Reece Jones (21 not out) made a meaningful contribution, as wickets were falling in the pursuit of runs as they finished on 242 for 6 off their 50 overs.

In reply, Clifton produced a great team effort to chase the runs down with a little more than one over to spare. Whereas no one made a big score, almost everyone made a telling contribution to the total.

Middleton were missing two of their main bowlers in Saq Mahmood and Paul Bennett, and it showed, as the Clifton batsmen found scoring all to easy and Middleton lacked the cutting edge they sorely needed.
