Hill pleased with winning start to new season

Date published: 05 August 2013

Rochdale got their 2013/14 season off to a winning start on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Hartlepool United at Spotland.

It was a confident and entertaining display that manager Keith Hill said he is pleased with.

He commented: “I think we dominated in certain periods of the game, but we could have found ourselves one-nil down. They had the first chance of the game, then they had the first chance of the second half as well. It could have been crucial and it could have undermined the energy, the enthusiasm, the work and the determination we had shown.

“We want an intelligent energy and I think we got it for a majority of the game. It’s a product of pre-season and probably last season when I first came to the club, so I’m really pleased at this moment in time.

“Looking at the game, it couldn’t have been a better start. We’ve been six weeks in the making, but we’re not made yet - it’s only the beginning of a very long season.

“The energy and the endeavour was good. I’ve also got good options on the bench - options to change on Tuesday night without weakening the side and looking into the Burton Albion game. I thought we were good in every department.”
