Rochdale Hornets 36 - 10 South Wales Scorpions

Date published: 04 August 2013

A superb second half performance from Hornets gave them victory for the second week running.

South Wales Scorpions held Hornets in the first half to go in level at 10-10. However, Scorpions were completely outclassed by Hornets in the second half, Hornets defence not allowing Scorpions a single point whilst the Hornets attack added a further 26 points to give Hornets a very comfortable winning margin.

Scorpions opened the scoring, Shae Lyon-Fraser touched down in the corner after good work from Sam Powell and Jack Murphy. Matt Wilcox missed the kick.

It wasn't long before Hornets hit back and took the lead as good hands with a couple of good off loads saw Danny Yates make a clean break and sprint 15 metres to go over. Crook converted.

Scorpions, on the run of play, deserved a second try and they got one to restore their lead. After more good running from Tutuila and some excellent support play, Powell crashed over. Wilcox converted.

After being awarded a penalty on the 40 metreline Hornets played an excellent set of six resulting in Yates breaking away to score his and Hornets second try. Crook missed the conversion and the teams went into the half time break level.

Hornets started the second half as they intended to go on, quickly imposing their will on the Scorpions.

Llewelyn crossed out wide and Crook added the extras to give Hornets a 12 point lead.

Baines was next in the queue as he darted over from acting half. Crook again adding the extras.

With the game already well and truly won, Hornets kept up the pressure and Gaz Langley went over the line out wide. Crook missed the kick.

A slick move that saw Danny Davies power over for Hornets seventh try wrapped up the scoring to complete a superb half for Hornets.
