Heywood Cricket Club preview

Date published: 06 July 2013

There’s a big few days coming for Heywood Cricket Club's various teams.

Joe Lovell makes a welcome return to the Heywood first team for a tough weekend of cricket.

Crimble is the place for the clash with Clifton on Saturday, with the visitors boasting 10 wicket paceman Steve Cheetham among their ranks.

Lovell comes in for Dale Latham but Latham returns to the squad for the visit to Clifton on Sunday in the Wood Cup.

Clifton (home, Saturday, meet 12.15pm, start 1.30pm)
Clifton in Wood Cup (away, Sunday, meet 12.15pm, start 1.30pm)
R Cross, R Zelem, A Dawson, D Pawson, W Hunt, S Dawson, H Naeem, J Lovell, R Paterson, C Kaye, T Townsend. Sunday: Add D Latham to squad.

The second team travel to Clifton on Saturday in a tricky league match and then host the Salford club on Sunday in the Burton Cup.

Clifton (away, Saturday, meet 12.30pm, 1.30pm start)
R Smethurst, M Hood, D Fawcett, A Fawcett, L Grogan, M Grogan, S Burrill, S Byrne, S Jones, R Purser, B Thulborn. Sunday: S Dawson replaces B Thulborn.

There’s a chance to watch cricket from a bygone era at Crimble on Tuesday 9 July. With the weather forecast set for hot, Lancashire over-60s entertain Cheshire in a big clash with egos at stake.

Former chairman David Fare is playing for Lancashire and presuming no one gets after him, and his frame holds up, is expected to bowl his full stint of nine overs.

There’ll also be a chance to catch up with a former Heywood player playing for Cheshire.

Bob Yardley played for Heywood firsts and seconds between 1985 and 1988, taking plenty of wickets with his medium pacers.

He is looking forward to meeting some of his former team-mates and friends from the club.

The match starts at 1.30pm.
