Unity Cup 2013
Date published: 02 July 2013
The fourth annual Unity Cup event gave an opportunity for footballers to unite for a good cause. The teams involved were Wardleworth FC, Asia FC, Rochdale Asia and Bury Town FC.
All teams partake in the Rochdale Saturday and Sunday leagues.
The football was played in the best of spirits and many people attended to support their teams.
The money collected goes to charity and this year the Unity Cup has raised over £350.
The money will go to Deaf Rhinos Football Club, and manager Rukon Rehman commented: “We are very happy and grateful that people have thought about us and are willing to help us gain coaching equipment so we can sustain our club. Our thanks and prayers to the organisers.”
The second charity to benefit will be the convoy to Syria. This charity helps the children of Syria who are suffering because of the war with in the country. The money will go on gifts that will put a smile on the childrens faces during Ramadan (the month of fasting).
Event organiser Azmat Khan said: “The first ever Unity Cup was the perfect stepping stone in the success we have today. That game proved that teams can put their differences aside and get along, all in the name of charity and with the focus on giving to the under privileged. This year was no different.
"My thanks to all the clubs and managers of their respective teams. My thanks to Councillor Farooq Ahmed who has helped us with the cost of the pitch. My thanks to the referee Syed Ali (Gabbar) who refereed all the matches and my thanks to the supporters who came along to support this great event.”
