The Rochdale Hornets players were crowned champions at the Rochdale Hornets Golf Day, held on Tuesday at Manchester Golf Club.

Players Mark Goodman, Martin Waring, Dave Sutton and guest A Smith were nine point winners over joint second place AAA Pest Control, Hornets staff and Hornets chairman team who all scored 71.

Propping up the rear of the field was the Wheatsheaf Centre and Care FM with 60 points with Geldard Electricals sandwiched in the middle with 62.

Longest drive went to C Best with a 320 yard effort, A Smith was nearest the pin in two and Mark Goodman was nearest the pin on the Rugby League World Cup sponsored 13th.

A club spokesman said: "A special thanks must go to Manchester Golf Club for their fantastic hospitality and the twenty strong field of 'golfers' who helped raise much need funds for the Hornets."
