Hornets' News

With Hornets having no game for the next couple of weeks it doesn't mean the club has gone into hibernation, if anything activity has ramped up several degrees.

To celebrate the club’s history and to promote the Fiji V Ireland fixture in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, the Hornets Under 23’s are to take on Fiji UK. The Fiji UK team is organised by Gateshead Thunder and former South Sydney prop Tabua Cakacaka.

Tabua has pulled together the best of the Fijians currently playing League and Union in the UK, so this promises to be a real challenge for the young Hornets.

The game takes place on Saturday 23 June 2012 at Kingsway Sports Centre, just a few hundred yards from the old historical home of Hornets. The game kicks off at 6pm and will be a fantastic celebration of Rochdale Rugby League History. Hornets would like to thank Gino Ruffell from Red Tree International for sponsoring the game and Ben Boothman from the Flying Horse Hotel who is laying on the post match reception.

Continuing with the event theme, Hornets have organised a special Twenty20 Cricket Challenge were the Hornets Players will take on the Hornets Supporters in this fast, fun version of Cricket. The Cricket Challenge takes place on Sunday 8 July 2012.
As well as the Twenty20 Cricket Challenge there will also be some Junior Rugby League and Hornets hope to debut their new dance team who are coming together as part of the Channel 4 documentary that is currently being filmed about the Hornets.

The Channel 4 camera crew will be at the Twenty20 Cricket event to film the day so it promises to be a great day for all the family. The day starts around noon with an open training session for the Hornets team and wickets are pitched at 2pm.

Hornets have been very fortunate in the last couple of weeks in signing a series of new and exciting sponsors and partners.

Thanks to the hard work of a lot of people and in particular Hornets Head Coach John Stankevitch the club has beaten the economic conditions to link with a broad range of companies.

New partners include:

Black Coffee Digital
J.W. Lees
Alliance Maintenance Services
Enspec Power
Red Tree International
RLWC2013
Courtesy Coaches
WISH Communications amongst others

This bodes well for Hornets at a difficult time for a lot of sporting clubs.

Challenge Cup Final Trip
To continue the celebration theme, Hornets are organising a trip to Wembley for the Challenge Cup Final to mark the 90th anniversary of Rochdale Hornets' greatest moment, when the club defeated Hull FC in 1922 to lift Rugby League's most historic trophy.

The trip will cost £49 per person, which includes return coach fare and a ticket to the game, along with a breakfast stop.

If you are interested in going on the trip, please contact the club.
