Northern Ireland international joins Dale on loan

Teenage midfielder Martin Donnelly has today (Monday 21 January) joined Rochdale on loan from Sheffield United in a deal that will see him remain at Spotland until the end of the season.

Donnelly, 19, is a Northern Ireland Under-19 international and has been at the club for the last 10 days on trial, featuring and scoring in the Reserve team's 3-0 over Tranmere Rovers. He also travelled with the first team squad to both Wycombe and Chesterfield where the eagle eyed amongst the travelling support will have seen him taking part in the warm ups.

Rochdale boss Keith Hill has compared Donnelly to former Leeds, Blackburn and Bolton wide-man Scott Sellars, who is on the Sheffield United coaching staff.

"Martin's done well in training and he gives us good options on the left-hand side," Hill said.
