Dale striker Murray on brink of move to Brighton

Date published: 25 January 2008

Brighton amp; Hove Albion are on the brink of signing Dale striker Glenn Murray.

The Brighton Argus reports the Seagulls have submitted a "healthy bid" for the 24-year-old marksman and the deal is "99 per cent certain to go through".

Albion have been tracking Murray for some time. Brighton have been pursuing Dale's ten-goal top scorer at the beginning of the January transfer window and now Brighton chairman Dick Knight has made his move.

The size of Albion's offer is unclear, although a Rochdale source said: "Brighton have submitted a healthy bid, believed to be about £300,000. That seems very high but a bid like that would leave Rochdale in no doubt.

"They would drive him down themselves for that kind of sum. It is 99 per cent certain it's going to go through."

Rochdale previously turned down bids from MK Dons and Shrewsbury for Murray, who has scored six goals in his last seven appearances.
