Rugby reunion raises money for charity
Date published: 28 September 2011
Past players, officials and supporters of Kirkholt ARLFC held their first reunion on Sunday (25 September) at the Balderstone club and raised over £300 for Springhill Hospice.
Over 40 players attended including ex-Hornets players Peter Standring, John Stapleton, Paul O’Keefe, Chris Hilton, Paul Higginson and Sam Butterworth.
A number of ex-players who played in both incarnations of the Kirkholt team including George Taylor, Mark Williams, Paul Earnshaw, Alan Colclough, Brent Andrews and ex town team captain Martin Pickering were also present.
A framed, autographed shirt, donated by Hornets, was auctioned off and was won by local boxing legend Tony Connellan. This, along with a donation by Martin Pickering and the proceeds of a raffle, means that £315 was raised on the day for the hospice.
Kirkholt ARLFC would like to thank the Balderstone Club for hosting the event and Rochdale Mayfield for the donation of a match ball as a raffle prize.
