Minutes silence for Hornets “sponge man”

Date published: 26 January 2011

Rochdale Hornets former club electrician and “sponge man” has sadly passed away.

Gerry Ogden was well known at the old Athletic ground, running to give injured players the “magic sponge” treatment. He also doubled as an on call electrician for Hornets games at Spotland Stadium.

A minutes silence will be held before tonight’s (26 January 2011) game (against Warrington Wolves) as a mark of respect of Mr Ogden and former Hornets player Mick Fleming who also passed away recently.

A statement in the club’s newsletter, reads: “He will be greatly missed and the club would like to offer sincere condolences to Mr Ogden’s family.”
