Rochdale Football Club
The Football League and Premier League released the fixtures for the coming season on 22 June. Rochdale will begin their 2006/2007 campaign with a home game against League Two newcomers Walsall, The Saddlers having fallen from League One last term. The game will be played on Saturday 5 August.
Three days later, and Dale get the longest trip of the season out of the way early when they play on the English Riviera against Torquay, meaning the fixture will be played on a Tuesday night as it was last season, making for a late night for the travelling fans. Hopefully the return journey will be as joyous as the last one after Dale gained a 3-1 win on the South coast. Another away trip follows on the Saturday when the team faces another of the relegated teams, Swindon Town, making for what looks to be a tough start to the campaign.
The games that all Dale fans will have been looking for, the two fixtures against Bury, will be played at Spotland on November 4, with the reverse at Gigg Lane on April 7. The seasonal fixtures have presented Dale with a home game against Wrexham on Boxing Day and an away trip to Grimsby on New Year’s Day.
Other games to look out for include those against the newly promoted, football league founders Accrington Stanley; Dale make the short journey over to Rossendale on 26 August, with the home game falling on March 3, whilst former Dale striker Clive Platt will return to Spotland on January 27 when Dale face Milton Keynes Dons.
The busiest month of the campaign is September, when Dale will play no fewer than seven league games and a possible Carling Cup fixture should they overcome Doncaster Rovers in the first round; a game which takes place in Doncaster on August 22.
