Rochdale AFC fan drive

Date published: 12 February 2008

Following plans announcing a series of initiatives designed to increase their fan base, Rochdale AFC has revealed the detailed plans for the Wycombe and Chesterfield matches.

They want existing supporters to try to encourage people they know to go to Spotland - asking fans to accompany their friends as they recognise that match day at Spotland can be daunting to someone who has never been.

The club plans to issue every supporter with a book of five vouchers and a letter at the turnstiles as they enter Spotland for the match against Wycombe on Saturday 23 February. Each voucher entitles the bearer to go to the Chesterfield game on Saturday 1 March for £10.00 in any stand (no concessions). The deal is being aimed at the adult market in Rochdale and the club is asking supporters to choose carefully who they distribute the vouchers to. Maybe you know a lapsed fan? Maybe you know a fan of a Premiership club who has recently stopped going?
who bring more than five people.

The club recognises loyal supporters are the clubs best sales force and thank fans for that. Moreover, what the club describes as "unbelievable prizes" are to be won by the fan who brings the most people and becomes a "super fan" for next season.

All fans distributing these vouchers need to write their name and address on the back of each voucher. After the Chesterfield game a count will be made and the fan who has introduced the most new supporters will receive a prize worth over £1000.

The club's commercial staff has been busy distributing vouchers to over 200 Goldbond agents along with a letter inviting them to compete to become the club's first super fan. In the interest of fair play any supporter who is not an agent can collect vouchers from the club ticket office.

The club asks that fans do not hand out these vouchers for the sake of it, to anybody.

A spokesman said: "Choose carefully amongst your friends, family and colleagues as to who you feel will come and more importantly will come again.

"We feel that we have a product that is worth selling but also realise that Rochdale AFC carries something of a stigma in football terms amongst some of the townsfolk. We want to break this barrier and with your help we can!"
