Steve Parkin has added further to his small Rochdale squad by securing the services of Hartlepool midfielder Darrell Clarke until January after the 28 year-old signed a loan deal on Thursday morning. Following a successful period in the North-East, Clarke has been hit by injuries and it is in the best interests of both clubs that he gets some first team opportunities at Spotland.
It is expected that Clarke will fill the vacant right-wing berth or come into a midfield three with Gary Brown and Gary Jones currently injured.
Clarke is a hard working midfielder who has built a good reputation with the Hartlepool supporters since joining them in 2001. Injuries have been a problem for the player during the last couple of seasons but if he stays fit, Clarke should be a valuable asset during his six months at Spotland.
Steve Parkin already knows plenty about Clarke having worked with him during his time at Mansfield Town, after Clarke progressed through the youth ranks at Field Mill.
The deal has been made in time for Rochdale’s visit to Oldham Athletic on Saturday to contest the Rose Bowl Trophy and Clarke is expected to come straight into the starting eleven. Clarke may not be the only new face to appear at Boundary Park with the possibility of a couple of trial players also featuring as Parkin looks to further bolster his squad with the start of the season just over a week away.
