Super League trophy comes to Rochdale

The most prestigious trophy in Rugby League has been on show in the Rochdale Exchange and the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre.

The Super League trophy was on display to shoppers, as Steve Goodall, the Rochdale Hornets new Commercial Manager, was able to secure the trophy from Leeds Rhinos for the day.

People had their photograph taken with the trophy as well as learnt a bit more about the club.

Steve Goodall, said: “I am hoping to raise the profile of the Hornets within the town and also promote our lottery, a number of shoppers have signed up today.

Mark Wynn, Chairman of the Hornets, said: “It is a fantastic day, there has been a lot of interest, and lots of people have had their photograph taken with the trophy or with Hercules the mascot.

“Fans have also been able to meet our new coach, so we are over the moon.”

John Stankervitch, the Hornets new coach, said: "This is an ideal situation being in the Rochdale Exchange; we are a community club and would like to get as many fans as possible involved.

“We are hoping to have a good season and get fans through the gate.”
