Sunday Football League action
A welcome return to Sunday League football following the recent crisis saw Copperpot give Cartshaft a real thrashing as they put thirteen goals past the hapless Cartshaft keeper, Gaffey, without reply.
Harrington was the star of the show for Copperpot netting four of their goals, Davey Luker and McCarroll both bagged two each, the other Copperpot goals were scored by Prescott, J Luker, Dowsing, and Shelmerdine with an own goal by Cartshaft's Whitney making up the total.
The win sees Copperpot close the gap on Premier Division leaders Success to the Plough who were held to a 3-3 draw at Firgrove by Birches.
Birches started well and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 10 minutes with a rocket shot that the Plough keeper never saw!
Plough hit back with two goals in quick succession, one from Helme and the other a great finish from Burg.
Plough wasted many chances in the second half and really should have had five or six but they had to suffice with just one more goal, this one scored by Astley with a skilful overhead kick.
It really should have been game over but Birches pulled one back before the referee controversially disallowed what would have been a Plough winner from Burg.
To rub salt in the Plough wounds Birches scored to level with the final kick of the game.
Broadway Celtic took full advantage of Catholic Club having no game to stretch their lead at the top of the First Division to six points with a comfortable four goal win away to Roetan.
Copperpot Reserves consolidated their place at the top of the Second Division winning with ease, scoring five without reply away to Old Bricklayers. On the score sheet were W Storey, Hopley, C Ogunyode, M Ogunyode and substitute Stott.
FC Dale remain in touch with Copperpot Reserves, six points behind with two games in hand, following a narrow victory over FC Bernard.
A surprise result in the Third Division saw bottom of the league Blueball outclass Rochdale Online despite being down to ten men after having a player sent off in the first half for constant verbal abuse.
Online were woeful and with Blueball playing probably their best football of the season the win was well deserved.
Rochdale Nomads increased their lead at the top of the Third with a comfortable 3-0 win over Dale Dynamos.
Catholic Club Reserves remain hot on the heels of Nomads having been fortunate to see off a much improved Red Lion side with the odd goal in five.
