Lady Captain, Jennifer Shaw
Founded in 1882, Manchester Golf Club is Celebrating 125 years this year. The Captain for 2007 is Alan Bottomley and the Lady Captain Jennifer Shaw. The Captain's Drive-In took place on Saturday 31 March, and was topped by a "fantastic" evenings entertainment from vocalist, Andy Lee and guitarist, David May who form the duo 'Risky Business'.
Lady Captain, Jennifer Shaw, an Event Organiser, is very proud to be following in her father's footsteps. Ms Shaw joined Manchester Golf Club as a novice golfer in 1995, the same year as her father, John Shaw, was Captain.
Ms Shaw said: "I was thrilled to be Driving-In the 2007 golfing season as Lady Captain 12 years to the day since my father did so."
Ms Shaw says she welcomes the opportunity to build the Lady Membership: "Although Manchester is a challenging course for anyone, ladies can and do excel when they become familiar with the course, as do our juniors, and we welcome enquiries from new Lady and Junior members. Our social events are increasingly popular and we have a top class line up of entertainers booked for the coming season."
Captain Alan Bottomley said: "I intend building on the work of former Captains and Council who have done a fantastic job in bringing Manchester Golf Club to a position where we have a waiting list for full membership. The course is in wonderful condition for the start of the season and my thanks to all our dedicated ground staff and professional Bryan Connors".
