Success cool down as season hots up!

Date published: 24 February 2008

The Sunday Football League is hotting up as the business end of the season approaches, however, one team who are distinctly cooling down are Success to the Plough whose second drubbing in successive games against in form Littleborough has almost certainly dealt a fatal blow to their title aspirations.

The other game in the Newbold Tyres Premier Division saw Catholic Club pick up only their second league win of the season but perhaps no surprise as it was at the expense of bottom of the table Plough.

Highfield continue to set the pace in the Rochdale Online First Division having put six past FC Dale whilst conceding only one.

North Star remain hot on the heels of Highfield in second place having picked up three points courtesy of bottom placed Cartshaft failing the fixture.

DC United, bottom of the Turnstone Developments Second Division, pulled off a surprise by holding Boundary Park to a draw, whilst another close encounter between Norden and The Star resulted in the game being settled by the odd goal in three in Norden's favour.

The first title of the season is almost certainly already settled with Royal Exchange, having beaten Woolworths two goals to one, already sure of promotion needing just two more wins from five games, even if Red Lion win their remaining six, to be certain of taking the Richard Martin Financial Services Third Division title.

Undoubtedly Red Lion will continue to do their best to put pressure on Exchange, and did all they could against Old Bricklayers by despatching them four goals to one.

No surprises in the one game played in the Rochdale Online League Cup with Premier Division leaders Broadway Celtic making light work of top of the Second Division, Wardleworth.
