Spotland hit by flood

Date published: 07 July 2009

The main executive boxes at Spotland Stadium have been badly damaged following a flood on Friday morning (3 July).

The Main Stand roof could not cope with the morning's heavy rain, and water suddenly poured into the boxes, leaving them in a state of disrepair.

The boxes were in use for Hornets rugby game against Hunslet at the weekend but were described by one supporter as being 'in a real state'.

The football club now faces a race against time to get the boxes back up to standard for Dale's high profile pre-season friendlies against Everton and Manchester United.

A club spokesman said: "The worse hit area is undoubtedly the Main Stand, where each executive box has been flooded. There has been some damage downstairs, although this is little in comparison to the executive boxes."
