Trust curry night hailed 'most successful yet'
Date published: 24 April 2009
Rochdale Supporters Trust hosted its fifth annual ‘Curry On Up the Dale’ curry night recently and the evening’s entertainment proved that the curry night is one of the highlights of the season.
Gareth Griffiths was the guest speaker and he kept the crowd entertained as he spoke about his time playing under various managers for Dale.
It was clear from the way Griffiths spoke that he still holds Steve Parkin in high regard and has great respect for what he did during his time at Spotland. There were also proud memories from the FA Cup run under Paul Simpson while recollections of Dave Hamilton’s drunken exploits on a team bonding weekend had everyone laughing.
There were one or two rib-ticklers fired in the direction of Dale’s management duo, Keith Hill and Dave Flitcroft, who were also special guests on the evening, before guests were given a special bonus when ‘Hillcroft’ themselves stepped up to the microphone for a Q and A session. The pair were in high spirits and everyone present was roused into believing that Dale’s promotion push would soon be back on track.
A Trust spokesman said: “We’re sure that all of our members had a fantastic evening, with excellent food provided by the India Lounge and some excellent banter and fond memories from ‘Griff’. We’re certain everyone will be at the curry night again next year.”
The Trust was proud to announce that £1,670.57 was raised at the highly successful event and the Trust board thanked the following people in support of their “best curry night yet”.
- The Ratcliffe Bars & Function Suites, Publications, Rochdaleafc.com and Atrium Telecom as corporate booth sponsors.
- The India Lounge for hosting the event and providing excellent food.
- Gareth Griffiths for agreeing to be the guest speaker.
- Rochdale AFC management team & directors for attending the event.
- Springhill Hospice for providing the PA system.
- Co-operative Group for help and advice in organising the event & kindly donating raffle prizes.
- Daleprint & Balloons with Wow for their services.
- Kevin Keegan's Soccer Circus for kindly donating the Silent Auction prize.
- Football In The Community for supplying stand-up bingo prizes
Following the success of the curry night, the Trust are now turning their thoughts to their final event of the season, the End of Season Awards Evening.
This event is being held in the Ratcliffe Suite and Dale Bar in the evening after Dale’s last home league game against Gillingham on 2 May and it promises to be an event that no true Dale fan can afford to miss.
If you haven’t got your £10 ticket yet, make sure you get one in the club shop next week. Tickets will sell out before the night.
