The view from the stands: Rochdale vs Stoke
In a new feature to our Rochdale AFC coverage, we bring you the views of a fan from each team, to get a feel for how things looked from the terraces during Dale's Centenary season. In the first edition, a Rochdale fan and a Stoke fan offer their insights into Rochdale's win in the Carling Cup first round on penalties. The game finished 2-2 after extra time, with Stoke scoring in the 120th minute to take the tie to spot kicks.

I thought that the game was more about the performance than the result. To say that for the majority of the 120 minutes we outplayed a championship side, will re-install any lost confidence over Saturday's game [Dale having lost their opening game of the season 3-0 at Peterborough].
We were great going forward and Ben Muirhead seemed to be having a field day out on the right. David Perkins was superb and what a goal! Credit also goes to Tom Kennedy for another solid performance going forward. James Spencer, the Dale keeper, still worries me on crosses but made a world class save in the first half.
Overall it was a blinding performance from the lads and a heart stopping penalty shootout. Bring on Round Two and let's just hope it’s a home draw!

I'm not the happiest of fans at the moment but we at Stoke expect to go out to so called lower teams so I don't know why we get our hopes up!
We got at Rochdale from the start and scored a good goal but then we seemed to relax. We allowed Rochdale to play their game and they started bothering the Stoke defence. We countered quickly and looked threatening in many ways but we did not have the clinical finish. Rochdale pulled through and soon had us under the thumb and the Stoke fans were getting frustrated at the way we were playing.
Rochdale fought themselves through by scoring two excellent goals and then some good penalties saw them win the game and progress to the second round.
