Hornets 31 Dewsbury 33

Date published: 30 March 2009

Hornets were defeated by a late penalty goal in a thriller at Spotland.

Hornets scored more tries than their Yorkshire opponents but the kicking proved to be the difference between the two sides. Patrick Walker, who scored the late penalty, hit five other kicks for Dewsbury while Hornet's Liam McGovern could only manage three.

But blame for the defeat could not be laid at McGovern's door after he went over for one of Hornet's six tries and hit a drop goal as he looked to inspire his side to a first win of the season.

Janan Billings, Paul Raftery, Martin McLoughlin, Mick Fogerty and Ian Sinfield scored further tries for the home side but they couldn't see out the victory.
