Injury worries for Hornets ahead of Spotland opener

Date published: 26 March 2009

Hornets coach Darren Shaw faces a few injury doubts ahead of his side's home league opener against Dewsbury on Sunday.

Wayne Corcoran is one of the players on the injury list with a shoulder problem, while Chris Hough is out of action due to a hand injury.

However, groin injury victim Casey Mayberry should return to the action after missing last week's narrow defeat to Workington.

Shaw commented ahead of the game: “We’re still lacking consistency and a bit of discipline, and it was disappointing not to come away with the points last week.

“Dewsbury have been in good form and with momentum comes confidence. They’ll be tough opponents for us to tackle but we’re ready for the challenge.”

After Dewsbury's 28-2 win over York, head coach Warren Jowitt is confident his side can make it two wins out of two.

He said: “Last week was another job well done, especially on defence. We were very professional in doing the job. However, this will be a tough game. Rochdale are a bit of an unknown quantity. They’ve had their ups and downs during the off-season but they’ve got a good coach in Darren Shaw. He’s a good motivator and they’ll raise their game because we’re a team that’s going well.”
