Experienced fullback signs for Dale

Date published: 25 March 2009

Rochdale made another addition to their squad this morning when they snapped up Grimsby Town left back Tom Newey on loan.

Newey is not expected to come into the squad for tonight’s crucial game at Chesterfield but could make his debut on Saturday afternoon against Exeter City.

The loan runs until the end of the season.

Newey is an attacking fullback with a sweet left foot and his presence will add competition for a left back position that has been dominated by Tom Kennedy.

His career so far has followed a similar path to Dale midfielder Ciaran Toner, with both starting at Leeds United before joining Grimsby later in their careers.

Dale boss Keith Hill has indicated that he still wants to sign another player before tomorrow’s deadline.
