Adam Rundle should get his chance to shine during Rochdale’s visit to Chesterfield tomorrow night.
The opportunity comes as fellow winger Nicky Adams returned to his club Leicester earlier this week.
Adams’ displays while on loan at Dale prompted Keith Hill to try and keep him at Spotland for another two months but his requests fell on deaf ears at the Walkers Stadium.
Rundle’s inclusion may not be the only change to Hill’s side as one of the youngest hot prospects of the Dale squad Will Buckley should be back in contention after being kept out of the last two games with tonsillitis.
Another reassuring piece of news is that Rory McArdle has got the all clear after he suffered a bang on the head in the win at Wycombe on Saturday.
Gary Jones will remain on the sidelines for the match as he still hasn’t recovered from his groin injury.
Manager Keith Hill is still hoping to strengthen his side and is looking for more loans before Thursday’s deadline to boost Dale’s automatic promotion challenge.
Their position in the automatic promotion places will be strengthened if they can beat a Chesterfield side who are looking to reignite a late play-off charge.
The home side will be without forward Drew Talbot as he is suspended, while defender Aaron Downes is out with a hip problem and midfielder Peter Till is a doubt after picking up a hamstring injury during training on Monday.
A win for Dale would take them to 67 points and open some daylight between themselves and the other promotion chasers. Their superior goal difference currently keeps them above Gillingham in the table but Dale have played a game less than the Kent side. Bury could temporarily leapfrog their local rivals if they can beat Rotherham tonight but a draw would be enough for Dale to reclaim second spot going into the weekend fixtures.
