Workington 21 Hornets 14
Date published: 23 March 2009
Hornets were edged out by Workington in their opening Championship One game.
The visitors trailed by 10 points at the break and despite Hornets reducing the gap in the second half, Workington did enough to hold out for an opening day win.
A try from Chris Giles, a brace from John Gillam and a conversion from Giles gave Hornets their points, which meant that they were never out of it.
But the kicking of Carl Forber saw Workington through as he converted all three of the home side's tries and kicked a penalty before a late drop-goal confirmed the win.
