Following the huge excitement of Hornets' last minute win over Blackpool last week, it was back to earth with a bump this weekend as Hornets went down to a heavy defeat at Gateshead.

A hat-trick from winger Stuart Sanderson helped Gateshead to victory while tries from Johnsons Dave and Craig gave Hornets first half hope. A Casey Mayberry score just after the re-start improved Hornets' chances but crucial tries at key intervals saw Gateshead run out comfortable victors.

Liam Bretherton's exciting second half try was the highlight for the visitors, while Martin Ainscough grabbed a late consolation.
