8-stars inflict first defeat on RYCC in Indoor Cricket League

RYCC lost their unbeaten record in week six in the British Asian Sports and Arts Foundation Indoor Cricket League, against an 8-stars side who recorded there fourth win.
Batting first 8 Stars started disastrously, losing three wickets in the first two overs, with Qayum 2-15 and Naeem 3-20 containing the 8 Star batsmen. But a rearguard action by Shakir, who hit a responsible 46, with good support from Tayyab, 16 not out and Waseem 14, gave 8 Stars a total score of 99.
RYCC must have fancied their chances after six wins on the trot but Tayyab, 2-7, Sohail also 2-7, well supported by Saleem, bowled superbly to reduce RYCC to just 59 all out.
A special mention goes to 8-Stars skipper Irfan in the handling of the game and excellent field placing to ensure his team victory.
In the league's other matches Unique got the better of All Stars Punjab lost out narrowly to Rochdalians.
All Stars' reached 96 in seven overs with good contributions from Imran Mirza 29 and Abbas 15 while Adeel and Asif were the key wicket takers for Unique. Unique reached the target with four wickets to spare.
In a close finish Rochdalians needed nine off the last over and made it home with three balls to spare, with excellent batting by Umar, 33 not out, and good support by Faisal, 20.
Punjab's opening batsman contributed a superb 34 but no other batsman gave him support. For Rochdalians the best bowling came from Benaras 3-17 and Hameed 2-16
In the Legends league, Legends notched up a high score of 120 against Veterans with good contributions from Abdul, 21, Nado, 19, Jav, 17 and Ali, 15, and Veterans were never in the hunt. Apart from Anwar making a solid 26 they totalled 73 runs to eventually lose by 47 runs.
In the other game Masters made 84 runs, including Archie’s knock of 24 not out and good support from Saleem, 18. It was too much for Seniors batsmen against the bowling of Aleem 3-10, Fayyaz 3-19 and Shahid 2-8, and Seniors were all out for 52, with Zahid Maulvi making a fighting 18.
All matches are played at Matthew Moss Sports Centre between 11am and 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and watch.
